Knock-Down Shop Table

By: Phil Huber
There are times when you need another work area in your shop. This sawhorse frame creates a handy, instant worksurface. Best of all, it stores out of the way when you don't need it.

In my small shop, I don’t have room for a permanent assembly table or finishing area. But a sturdy worksurface that I can set up easily and then quickly take down when it isn’t needed can be handy. That’s why the knockdown sawhorse table shown here is such a great option.

As you can see in the drawings, the framework starts with a pair of plywood boxes that fit over a couple of sawhorses. (You may need to adjust the dimensions of the boxes to fit your sawhorses.) The sides of each box extend the length of the sawhorses. Slots are cut in the boxes to hold some 2x4s

You’ll want the boxes to fit snug for stability. To do this, size the spacers to fit your sawhorses. The end caps and top pieces are aligned with the side notches in the sides for the 2x4s. Now, all you need are some 2x4s and plywood to set up an extra worksurface. And when you need to regain the floor space, it knocks down for easy storage.
