My latest cabinet project called for a number of adjustable shelves. Rather than using typical steel shelf standards, I decided to make my own hardwood versions for a custom appearance.
To make them, I drilled deep holes in the edge of a 3⁄4"-thick workpiece. Then it’s a simple matter to rip strips to thickness.
Before assembling the case, align the holes and fit the strips into grooves cut into the case sides. I left my standards a little proud for a unique look but you can also make them flush with the sides.
