One baseplate that comes in handy is the edge guide shown below. With it, I can use my hand-held router to rout parallel grooves, dadoes, and even add decorative touches, like the flutes shown in the photo below. The key to this baseplate is the adjustable fence (drawing below) that rides along the edge of the workpiece. It’s attached to a large, hardboard base with a few bolts, washers, and knobs.
