Auxiliary Switches

One feature you can add to your router table to make it a little more user-friendly is an auxiliary power switch. This eliminates fumbling around underneath the table to find the switch on your router. You just plug your router into the switch and you’re ready to start routing. If you ever need to shut the router off in a hurry (especially in an emergency), you’ll appreciate the safety factor of having a more accessible switch.

Switches

You can either buy a ready-made auxiliary switch, or build your own with a few common electrical parts. Editor’s Note: If you’re not comfortable with basic electrical wiring, seek the help of a qualified electrician.

The parts for the switch in the right photograph are available at any hardware store or home center.
