Routing a Rabbet Inside a Frame

For some projects, it works better to create a rabbet after assembly, like creating a recess in a door for a glass panel. This is definitely a job for a rabbeting bit. Here the bearing controls the width, so you’ll need to adjust the height to take multiple passes. And the above photo shows you the proper direction for routing.

Bearing. The bearing sets the width of the rabbet. But it can’t get into the tight corners.

Square Up. Over at the workbench, use a wide chisel to finish off the rabbet in the corner.
